"For the students, it was huge what it did for their confidence and their academic maturity... it was really spectatular, the difference that I saw in those two students."- One professor at Rising Data
After taking the course, students showed a statistically significant increased interest in taking courses in science, math, engineering, and computer science. The building of drones and rockets excited students and generated enthusiasm students frequently asked about the course and took classes in preparation.
Students' interest in careers that required a computer science or programming background increased from 3.5 to 4.0 out of 5.
Taught NASA career exploration:
The course prepared students in STEM fields for future internships. Eight of the program participants were funded for research internships at: NASA Armstong and CSU Fresno, NASA Ames, Sonoma State University, and UC San Diego.
Increased number of STEM courses in Minority serving community colleges:
Rising Data courses were taught at Minority serving Community Colleges. Sonoma State University and CSU Fresno faculty worked with the community college faculty to create courses at each institution. Both Sonoma State University and Fresno mentored the faculty and hosted research interns from the participating community colleges.

Rising Data Team Collaborators:
Napa Valley College — PI, Erin Quealy
The community college members were responsible for integrating the curriculum with a community college population, in terms of advising the university partners and assisting with community college faculty trainings.

SSU developed the rocketry and electronic payload curricular material. SSU also hosted our first faculty summer training.
CSU Fresno — Co-I, Gregory Kriehn
CSU Fresno developed the drone portion of the curriculum. CSU Fresno hosted our second faculty summer training
NASA Center Partner: NASA Armstrong —David Berger
Dave worked with us to incorporate NASA careers into the curriculum through discussion and hosted 6 summer interns over the course of the grant.
